Preventative measures for skin care include avoiding direct sun, wearing protective clothing, hats, and sunscreen this is the best protection for our skin. Making sure you have proper home care, skin treatments, and ingredients such as antioxidants, peptides, lipids, and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are all beneficial. Healthy habits are all things you can create at home by making sure you have a good diet, vitamins, increased water intake, regular exercise, and other healthy practices all have positive affects on our health and the complexion of your skin.


Here are some helpful tips to think of when using your physical sunscreen.

~ Use a moisturizer with sunscreen of SPF 30 on all areas of potential exposure. Making sure that you apply this 20 minutes before you plan to be in the sunshine.

~ Avoid sun exposure during peak hours when the UV is at its highest this is usually between the times of 10 AM and 4 PM.

~ Making sure that if you are swimming or doing other physical activities outdoors you reapplied every hour or immediately after your swim.

~ Make sure that none of your medications or daily supplements are photos sensitizing. These products can make people more sensitive to sun exposure and can also cause severe reactions such as burning, hyperpigmentation and allergic reactions.

~Check the expiration date of your sunscreen to make sure you are getting maximum protection.


When it comes to sunscreen there are two types of active ingredients. Chemical sunscreens are organic being (carbon based) compounds that chemically absorb ultraviolet radiation. Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate, avobenzone, which create a chemical reaction. Physical sunscreens are inorganic (without carbon) compounds that physically reflect or scatter ultraviolet radiation.
